International Mother’s Day Walk for Life (IMDWL)

The First Event in 1978
The First International Mother’s Day Walk for Life took place on the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls on the afternoon of Sunday May 14, 1978. The Canadian delegates under the direction of Niagara Region Right to Life director, James V. McManamy, met the American delegation Niagara University Coalition for Life under the direction of Dr. Raphael T. Waters, professor of Thomistic Philosophy at Niagara University.

What Happens?
Canadians and Americans meet at the centre of the Rainbow Bridge for a short ceremony that features a significant ceremony by children: the dropping of long stemmed red roses into the Niagara Gorge to symbolize the millions of children killed by abortion in Canada since 1969 and in the United States since 1973.

Significant Quotes From The First Mother’s Day March
“The Walk will call attention to the startling contrast between sentiments associated with Mother’s Day and the appalling realities of Abortion.”

The slaughter of abortion “demonstrates that our Government(s) has failed in its (their) very first duty of protecting innocent human life at all stages.”

“While we recognize that abortion often involves serious social problems, we insist that these problems can and must be solved without resort to killing.”
